Hawaii took a double-digit lead in the first half and then cruised to a 75-60 victory over Delaware State at the Stan Sheriff Center on Tuesday.
A gathering of 2,997 saw the Rainbow Warriors improve to 7-2 with their third win in a row and fifth in their last six outings. The Hornets dropped to 3-4.
UH led 35-23 at intermission and came out blazing after the break with the first nine points.
Aaron Valdes scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half.
Garrett Nevels added 15 and Negus Webster-Chan scored 11.
Six of Valdes’ points were on fastbreak dunks, and UH outscored DSU 20-4 in transition.
Kendall Gray scored 13 to lead Delaware State. Tyshawn Bell added 12.
The Hornets missed their first 13 shots from 3-point range. When Charles Burley finally made one with 2:35 left, Hawaii led 70-55. Burley finished with 14 points.
