Dawn Ige
Gov. David Ige on Wednesday announced the appointments of six members to his Cabinet along with his deputy chief of staff.
The announcements were made in a news release.
"We are committed to finding the best and brightest in our community to serve as effective leaders in state government," Ige said in a statement. "These appointments show a variety of talented and dedicated individuals from both the public and private sectors, who have decided to work together to create a better Hawaii for future generations."
The governor’s office confirmed the appointment of Rachael Wong as director human services. Wong is vice president and chief operating officer of the Healthcare Association of Hawaii.
Other Cabinet members appointed include:
>> Wesley Machida, director of budget and finance. Machida is executive director of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawaii.
>> Douglas G. Murdock, comptroller and head the Department of Accounting and General Services. Murdock is vice president for administrative and fiscal affairs of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
>> James Nishimoto, director of human resources development. Nishimoto has 38 years of government service and has served in a wide range of positions, including executive assistant to the president of the University of Hawaii.
>> Luis P. Salaveria, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. Salaveria most recently served as the deputy director of finance.
>> Maria Zielinski, director of taxation and head of the Department of Taxation. She previously served as state deputy comptroller and served as accounting administrator for the County of Maui.
Nominations are subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
Laurel A. Johnston was selected as Ige’s deputy chief of staff, the governor’s office said. Johnston is former director of the University of Hawaii System Budget Office.
