Union delivering coal to Las Vegas casino company

LAS VEGAS >> Members of the Culinary Union plan to deliver lumps of coal to a casino company that’s long been on its naughty list.

The Christmas-themed protest is set for Thursday evening at Red Rock Casino, which is also the headquarters of Station Casinos.

The union represents about 55,000 casino workers and has had a long-running dispute with Station. It’s called on the company to allow a vote so workers at nine Station properties can decide whether to unionize.

Union members held another demonstration at Red Rock two months ago.

Four protesters were arrested Oct. 9 when the union blocked a lane even though the state denied it a road closure permit.

The demonstration happened the same night that the Downtown Summerlin retail complex celebrated its grand opening next door.
