High surf along the north shores of most islands may get to warning level as a large northwest swell approaches the islands over the weekend.

A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for the north and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai and the north-facing shores of Maui.

The swell will continue to build further Saturday afternoon bringing warning-level surf, weather officials said.

Surf along the north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai and the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui are expected to be 10 to 15-feet Friday and building to 18 to 22-feet on Saturday.  

The west-facing shores of Oahu and Molokai will see waves from 8 to 12 feet today growing to 12 to 16 feet on Saturday.
