A helicopter spotted the man waving a flashlight from his disabled boat.

The Coast Guard rescued a man who spent several hours at sea on a disabled boat approximately 46 miles southwest of Kahoolawe on Saturday.

Around 10:15 a.m., the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu received a call from a friend of the vessel’s operator that his 19-foot boat was disabled. The mariner called his friend using his cell phone. His friend gave the Coast Guard an approximate location.

The boat was spotted around 7:06 p.m. after helicopter rescue crews noticed the man waving a flashlight.

The man and his passenger were safely rescued at 7:50 p.m.

On-scene conditions were seas of more than ten feet and 40 mph winds, according to the Coast Guard.
