Kauai police arrested three people suspected of stealing cars in separate incidents over the last two months.

Among those arrested was a 20-year-old man who is suspected of stealing a car from a Hanamaulu residence on Tuesday.

The owner of the vehicle located the suspect with the stolen vehicle in Anahola and alerted police.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and third-degree assault related to an altercation with the vehicle’s owner. The suspect was already on probation for 12 previous property crimes.

The other two people arrested were a 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, who are accused of stealing two cars that had been left on the roadside after mechanical breakdowns.

The two suspects were located Thursday on Haiku Road while attempting to paint one of the stolen vehicles. Both were arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motorized vehicle. The male suspect was also arrested in connection with a separate case of forgery and theft.
