A man who allegedly confronted his neighbor and fired a handgun  in close proximity to her  was arrested on Christmas Eve for reckless endangering, terroristic threatening and trespass, Kauai County officials reported.

The dispute between Anahola neighbors began shortly after the victim’s dog reportedly attacked and killed a male Shih Tzu mix owned by the 34-year-old man who was arrested.  The dog attack reportedly occurred after the Shih Tzu trespassed onto the victim’s property.

The victim called police at 6:28 p.m. on Wednesday and reported the man had come onto her property and fired a handgun approximately six feet in front of her. Police located the suspect at his home on Kalalea View Drive. Officers also found a handgun at the residence.

The neighbor was taken into custody and released after posting $22,000 bail.
