A 26-year-old swimmer was in serious condition Sunday after he was rescued off Kahe Point Beach Park in Nanakuli.

Police heard cries for help from the man, who was about 500 yards from shore, while responding to a report of a swimmer in distress at about 9:15 a.m., said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Kevin Mokulehua.

Honolulu lifeguards brought the man back to shore, where firefighters treated him for complaints of cramping to his legs, Mokulehua said.

Paramedics treated and transported the man to a hospital in serious condition, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.
