Some 2,300 Maui Electric Co. customers on Molokai were left without electricity on Sunday, the latest in a string of outages that has plagued the island over the last two years.

Sunday’s outage affected customers on the West End, East End, Kualapuu and Kaunakakai areas.

The outage occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Service was fully restored by 6 p.m.

This was the fourth power outage on Molokai this month.

In June, MECO submitted a report to the Public Utilities Commission identifying two primary causes — a new load-shedding system and a faulty wire connection on a generation unit — for a spike in the number of outages on Molokai since 2013, according to the Maui News.
