A 52-year-old Kauai man was sentenced to two concurrent five-year prison terms Wednesday for sexually assaulting a girl 11 years ago.

Jonathan Espejo Reyes, of Lihue, was charged with 21 counts of sexual assault in 2002, The Garden Island reported.

Reyes was arraigned on Aug. 13, 2012. The original charges included two counts of sexual assault against a minor, 15 counts of first-degree sexual assault, and four counts of attempted first-degree sexual assault.

He pleaded no contest to two counts of amended third-degree sexual assault on Jan. 2.

The victim was a minor at the time of the sexual assault and has since enlisted in the military.

Kauai County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Arin says one consideration for the plea deal was to avoid putting the victim through the trauma of having to testify at a trial.

A man got ten years just for going to McDonald's to meet an undercover cop but this guy got five years for 15 counts of first degree? One guy got ten years for an attempt to meet a minor and this guy actually commits first degree 15 times and gets 5 years? What is wrong with this picture?
