Consolidated Theatres will open an eight-screen movie theater facility at Ka Makana Alii, being developed in Kapolei.

The new theater will be the company’s ninth in Hawaii and its first new facility since 2001 when its 16-screen theater opened at the Ward Entertainment Center.

Consolidated already operates a 16-screen theater in Kapolei, at 890 Kamokila Blvd. in the Kapolei Entertainment Center. No information about the older theater’s fate was given in the announcement about the new facility.

Consolidated rival Regal Entertainment announced in July, plans to build a 12-screen theater at Kapolei Commons, one block away from Consolidated’s first Kapolei location.

Including the new theater, the first phase of Ka Makana Alii, a 1.4 million-square-foot regional mall being built in West Oahu by DeBartolo Development, is slated to open next year.
