Owner sees, follows stolen car and catches suspects

A man spotted his stolen car in Kaneohe, followed it to the Ala Wai area, where the car was involved in a traffic accident, then detained the suspects until officers arrived, police said.

The 25-year-old owner of the car saw the suspects in his vehicle at 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.  The owner and his family followed the car until it got involved in a traffic accident 50 minutes later near Iolani School where they detained the suspects until police arrived.

Authorities charged  Axel Rodriques-Taeful, 28, with car theft. His bail was set at $25,000.

His passengers — Tyrone Kapahu, 23; and Thane Kapahu, 28–were charged with unauthorized entry into a vehicle. Their bail was set at $2,000.
