Pedestrian struck while crossing Salt Lake Blvd. dies

    Honolulu police investigate an accident on Salt Lake Boulevard naer Kahuapaani Street Monday night after a man in his 70s was struck by a car and critically injured.

The pedestrian, who was struck while crossing Salt Lake Boulevard Monday near the Aloha Stadium, died Tuesday.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death. The case is classified as negligent homicide.

The medical examiner’s office has not released the name of the victim.

Police are seeking witnesses to the accident that occurred at 8:12 p.m. on Salt Lake Boulevard near Kahu-apa-ani Street.

Police said a 70-year-old woman driving a 2004 white four-door Suzuki struck a man in his 70s. Police do not know if the pedestrian was in or out of the crosswalk. He was taken to Queen’s Medical Center where he died.

The driver, who was uninsured, stopped after the accident. The Suzuki was heading eastbound when it struck the man.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 723-3397; anonymous tipsters may call CrimeStop-pers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellphone.

This is Oahu’s ninth traffic death, compared to six a year ago. There have been four pedestrian deaths so far this year.
