An apparent altercation on River Street on Friday evening resulted in one man nearly drowning in nearby Nuuanu Stream.

Firefighters responding to a 9:43 p.m. call found two men in the stream. One man was unconscious and had to be pulled out by firefighters.

The other man was able to get out of the water on his own, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. James Todd.

Firefighters performed CPR on the unconscious man before transferring him to the care of paramedics. The man was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center in undisclosed condition.

Police scanner transmissions indicated that the two men were arguing on the street before somehow entering the stream.
