Deputy directors for the state taxation and health departments were named by Gov. David Ige Friday.

Brigadier Gen. Joseph Kim, the deputy adjutant general and deputy commander for the Hawaii National Guard since 2011, is being nominated as deputy director for the Department of Taxation.

While deputy adjutant general, he ran day to day operations for the state Department of Defense.

Keith Yamamoto, first deputy director for the Department of Health since 2011, will retain that title. In that job, Yamamoto oversees the general administration of the department including budget, fiscal, facilities management, human resources, information technology, planning, vital records and the district health offices on the outer islands.

Both nominations require confirmation by the state Senate.
