Top-seeded Honokaa rallied for a 33-31 win over Hawaii Baptist to defend its title in Friday’s Division II final of the New City Nissan Girls Basketball State Championships at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Dragons (13-2) were led by Shayla Ignacio’s 13 points. HBA finishes its season at 16-1 and had the ball with 4 seconds remaining, but couldn’t get off a shot. Stephanie Dang led the Eagles with 12 points.
Big Island teams have now won the last four state titles. Honokaa lost to Kamehameha-Hawaii in the 2013 final.
