An Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate was charged Thursday with a burglary that happened while he was supposed to be on a work furlough.

Officers arrested inmate Andrew Kaoihana, 54,  and  Shawn Kekumu, 49, who did not give an address, inside of a business near the airport Tuesday with burglary tools, according to a police report.

Officers caught the suspects after they apparently triggered an alarm system.

Kaoihana, who was to have a parole hearing in May, is charged with  second-degree burglary. His bail is $75,000.

Kekumu is charged with second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and being in possession of burglary tools. His bail is $40,000.

Police said the burglary occurred between 10:25 and 11:37 p.m. Tuesday.

Kaoihana was supposed to return to OCCC from his job at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Under the prison’s system work furlough program, some inmates are allowed to leave prison to work to prepare them for parole.

Kaoihana is serving time for burglary, drug and theft charges.
