UH players celebrated with their Big West championship trophy during Senior Night festivities Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Hawaii women’s basketball team rolled to its 14th straight victory on Saturday, a 61-38 rout of Cal State Fullerton on senior night.
The Big West Conference regular-season champion Rainbow Wahine (22-7, 14-2 BWC) showed no signs of letting up despite already having clinched the top seed in next week’s Big West tournament. They shot 46 percent from the field while holding the Titans (11-18, 5-11) to just 27.9 percent.
UH was a perfect 8-0 at home in Big West play this season.
The Wahine rode a boisterous crowd of 3,419 — the program’s largest in many years — to a 17-point halftime lead.
Fullerton did not score a field goal for nearly 13 minutes bridging the halves and UH pushed its lead to 47-21. It was never in doubt from there.
Senior Shawna Kuehu, one of four players honored with traditional outgoing ceremonies, scored six points to surpass 1,200 for her career. She moved into eighth place on the career scoring list, passing Keisha Kanekoa.
The other players honored were Ashleigh Karaitiana, Shawlina Segovia and Morgan Mason.
Guard Briana Harris and forward Dalayna Sampton led UH’s balanced effort with 10 points apiece. Destiny King chipped in nine points, four rebounds and four assists. Kuehu had five assists.
No Fullerton player scored more than eight.
UH, which did not hit a 3-pointer in its previous two games, buried five 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes as part of a 59.1 percent shooting effort as it took a 34-17 lead into halftime.
