An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday, charging a 25-year-old woman with causing the death of a pedestrian stemming from a 2013 traffic accident in Kahala.

The indictment charged Stacey Selzer with negligent homicide in last year’s death of 90-year-old Takashi Kunihiro. Selzer’s bail is $11,000.

Honolulu police said Selzer was behind the wheel of a car that struck Kunihiro on Dec. 28, 2013. They said Kunihiro was crossing Hunakai Street in a marked crosswalk when Selzer made a left turn from Kilauea Avenue onto Hunakai striking Kunihiro.

Deputy City Prosecutor Chastity Imamura told a state judge Tuesday that police administered a field sobriety test and that Selzer passed a portion of it. When they used a Breathalyzer on her, Selzer’s blood-alcohol content measured 0.112 three hours after the collision.

The legal threshold for drunken driving is 0.08 BAC.

Kunihiro was taken to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition. He sued Selzer in state court last September for his mounting medical expenses and other damages. Kunihiro died Oct. 1.
