The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the north and west shores of some islands on Sunday.

A long-period northwest swell is expected to generate 12 to 16 feet surf along the north and west facing shores of Kauai and Niihau and 10 to 15 feet surf on the north facing shores of Oahu, Molokai, and Maui.

The swell will build throughout Sunday and peak overnight and diminish on Monday.

The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Monday.
