Two men with extensive arrest records are scheduled to make their initial appearance in District Court Monday for allegedly assaulting two police officers in Waikiki early Friday morning.

Both Pesamino Letuli, 43; and Shane Mara, 34, were charged over the weekend with assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest after they were stopped while riding their bicycles at 3:05 a.m. Friday at Ala Wai Boulevard and  Wai Nani Street.

Mara also is charged  with credit card theft and second-degree theft

Pesamino also faces third-degree promotion of dangerous drug and three outstanding arrest warrants.

Bail for both men has been set at $50,000 apiece.

The two officers, both Waikiki patrol officers, were treated for their injuries.

Police said Mara initially fled the scene after the two were stopped by an officer.

Letuli allegedly threw the officer to the ground and allegedly attacked the officer.

When a second officer arrived at the scene Mara allegedly returned and assaulted the other officer.

Mara has 37 convictions, including three felonies, beginning in 2004.

Pesamino has 44 convictions, including five felonies, beginning in 1994.
