April showers could get heavy Wednesday

A satellite image Tuesday morning showed a mix of high and low clouds over much of the state.

April showers mixed with periods of sunshine and breezy trades are expected through continue Tuesday, with an increased chance of rain Wednesday night and Thursday.

Most of the rain will be in the usual windward and mauka areas and some of the showers could be locally heavy. Some rain may move over the mountains to leeward areas.

Satellite and radar images showed scattered rain clouds being blown over the islands by the northeast tradewinds Tuesday morning.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for partly sunny skies Tuesday with scattered showers. 

The rains could pick up in the evening and after midnight.

Winds are expected to blow at 15 to 25 mph with highs between 76 and 86 degrees and lows from 63 to 72 degrees.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies and scattered showers increasing later in the day as a weather system moves over the islands. There’s a slight chance of thunderstoms Wednesday night and Thursday.

The weather service says showers are likely Thursday morning. Winds will drop to 10 to 15 mph through Thursday night.

Friday should be breezy, mostly sunny with scattered showers.
