Siren test scheduled for Punaluu, Waimanalo, Leeward Oahu

Four years after a powerful earthquake rocked the Big Island

The state and city emergency management agencies will conduct siren tests in Punaluu and Waimanalo Tuesday, and in Maili and Nanakuli on Wednesday.

Residents may hear a siren sound six to eight times during the test period. The tests may also include checks of the public address system and short blasts known as "burps."

The tests will be conducted at Punaluu Beach Park from 9 a.m. to noon and at Waimanalo District park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the sirens at Maili Beach Park will be tested from 9 a.m. to noon and sirens at Nanakuli Beach Park will be tested from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Residents can call the state Emergency Management Agency at 733-4300 if they have questions or concerns about the modernization of the outdoor siren warning system or the city Department of Emergency Management at 723-8960 to report siren problems.
