This weather radar image taken Wednesday morning shows rain over Windward Oahu and parts of Maui County, with some showers moving over Honolulu.

What forecasters are calling a “wet trade wind pattern” is bringing passing showers to the state, with the chance of heavier rain Wednesday night through Thursday.

Rain clouds, blown in by the trade winds, are bringing rain to the usual windward and mauka areas, with some showers moving over the mountains to leeward areas.

A weather system moving over the state will bring unstable weather conditions and the chance of localized heavy rain Wednesday night and Thursday.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for cloudy skies Wednesday with a 50 percent chance of rain. East winds of 15 to 20 mph will east to 10 to 15 mph Wednesday night.

Thursday’s weather is likely to be rainy in the morning, clearing in the afternoon, although scattered showers are possible through Friday morning.

Most of the rain will be in the usual windward and mauka areas and some of the showers could be locally heavy. Some rain may move over the mountains to leeward areas.
