The management of Mauna Kea and the Mauna Kea Science Reserve is the subject of a special University of Hawaii Board of Regents meeting Thursday at UH-Hilo.
The 11:30 a.m. meeting to update the regents on the status of the planned $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope, is scheduled after the board’s regular meeting.
The controversial TMT telescope, which could become operational in 2024, would become the 14th — and largest — telescope to occupy the mountaintop science reserve.
