In this composite satellite image taken Tuesday morning, a weather system is visible northwest of the islands. The system is bringing a shift in the winds and could bring rains to Hawaii this weekend.

The breezy tradewinds of the last several days should lessen and turn southeasterly on Wednesday, as surfers enjoy swells on all shores through Thursday and vog begins to move over the western islands.

A high surf advisory remained in effect for east-facing shores through early Thursday as winds of 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts continued moving over the islands from the east through Tuesday night.

Wind-generated surf of 6 to 8 feet is expected. Another small northwest swell may bring waves Friday into Saturday.

The forecast calls for scattered showers mostly over windward and mauka areas. Leeward areas should be partly to mostly sunny, but some rain clouds could form in the afternoon and evening.

East winds of 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts are expected to continue Tuesday night, but are expected to turn southeasterly overnight.

The southeast winds could blow vog could move over Oahu by Wednesday night. Hazy conditions are expected Thursday through Sunday.

Highs will be in the mid-70s to mid-80s.

An approaching weather system, responsible for the shift in winds, could bring rain to the western end of the state this weekend.
