The body of a 63-year-old Washington state woman was found floating in waters off south Maui Tuesday morning.

Betty Colleen Drexler, of Allyn, Washington was found floating unresponsive on the surface of the water and fire rescue workers were called to Ulua Beach in the Kihei area shortly before 9:35 a.m., Maui police said.

Beachgoers pulled her from the water and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Responding police and fire rescue workers took over life-saving efforts when they arrived at the scene.

Drexler was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of her death, police said.
