Hawaii County police investigate theft from veterans cemetery

Hawaii County police are investigating the theft of about $24,785 worth of equipment from a veterans cemetery in March.

The items ranged from a Trail King dual-axle trailer valued at $17,995, a small electric water pump with a metal pressurized tank valued at $600, a Honda weed trimmer ($700), a Stihl backpack blower ($500), and other tools and equipment.

Police said the theft occurred between 2 p.m. March 12 and 8:30 a.m. March 13 from the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery on Queen Kaahumanu Highway between the 88 and 89 mile marker across from the entrance to Kua Bay.

Police have opened a first-degree theft case.
