Fire destroyed a single-story residence in Kahului and displaced 11 people on Monday.

Firefighters responding to a 11:16 a.m. call found the Kea Street residence engulfed in flames.

The firefighters focused on protecting neighboring homes. Fire spread to one neighboring structure but was quickly contained.

A female occupant was at home with two other adults when the fire broke out. All three escaped the burning house, but the woman subsequently found herself trapped by flames and smoke in the backyard.

Firefighters broke through a neighbor’s fence to help her escape.

No injuries were reported.

A total of six adults and five children were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

Damage was estimated at $500,000 to the structure and $100,000 to its contents. The neighboring home sustained minor exterior damage estimated at $10,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
