Hawaii County firefighters continue dousing brush fire hotspots

Hawaii County firefighters continued Tuesday to douse hot spots of a Kau brush fire that began Monday and burned 220 acres.

The fire blackened vacant and pasture land with a mix of tall grass, brush and trees, the Fire Department said.

The fire was along Highway 11 in the area of Ninole Loop in Kau.

Firefighters stood watch Monday night to monitor fire breaks and to wet down hot spots.

The day crew actively wet down the perimeter of the burned areas to prevent the spread to unburned areas, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
