A bodyboarder became engulfed in the shore break Thursday at Sandy Beach. There were 16 spinal cord injuries at Sandy from 2009 to 2013, making it the third most dangerous beach in the state.

A low-pressure system south of Hawaii is generating a south swell that has prompted forecasters to post a high surf advisory for the south-facing shores of all islands.

Surf up to 8 feet is expected, according to officials at the National Weather Service.

The advisory is in effect through 4 a.m. Wednesday.
