LAS VEGAS » A man who police say was killed in a fight-night scuffle at a Las Vegas Strip resort valet was identified Friday as a 27-year-old California resident.

The case was being investigated as a homicide, police Officer Jesse Roybal said, and detectives were trying to find his assailant and people who saw him fall.

DaShawn Antwon-Fouch Hawkins of San Jose died Sunday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, several hours after he was knocked unconscious with an apparent head injury in a 4:20 a.m. fight at the Paris Las Vegas hotel-casino, according to the Clark County coroner.

A cause and manner of death were not immediately made public, pending blood toxicology test results.

The slaying marred a busy night of Las Vegas Strip events after Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao late May 2 in a welterweight championship fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Las Vegas police Officer Laura Meltzer said Friday that 12 people were arrested on felony charges and 86 people were arrested on misdemeanors during fight weekend. Sixty-four other people received citations for misdemeanors or other infractions.

Las Vegas police asked for public help this week in Hawkins’ death, saying investigators believe witnesses saw the fatal injury.

The department released grainy security camera images showing dozens of people on Las Vegas Boulevard sidewalks while a red SUV with a sun roof and a white Chevrolet Impala exit the Paris Las Vegas casino valet area.

Las Vegas police said they want to talk with a man who was driving the SUV with a female passenger, and a woman who was driving the Chevrolet.

Hawkins’ slaying occurred about four hours after one person was wounded in an after-midnight shooting near the Tropicana resort.

The victim and assailant weren’t identified in that case, and no arrest was immediately made.
