Kaiser, Kamehameha take titles at track and field championships

    The Kaiser girls track team celebrates their team title at the Island Movers State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

WAILUKU » Kaiser won its first girls team title and Kamehameha defended its boys crown at the Island Movers State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

Kaiser finished with 68 points and is the first public school to win a state girls track title since 1994. Kaiser’s team of Celine Lum, Tommi Hintnaus, Kristen O’Handley and Teuila Gardner won the 4×400. Lum won the pole vault on Friday. Hawaii Prep was second with 38 points and Kamehameha was third with 34.50. 

Kamehameha finished with 113 points, the most in tournament history and only team to surpass the century mark. Kamehameha’s Kayson Smith-Bejgrowicz won Saturday’s triple jump with a mark of 46 feet, 1.50 inches. He also won the high jump on Friday. Kaeo Kruse won the 3,000-meter run for the second consecutive year and Dylan Kane anchored the Warriors’ winning 4×100 relay team.
