2015 May 9 SPT - UH Wahine Rainbow Warrior's (10) Heather Morales hits a homerun in the fifth inning against UC Davis Aggie's in a women's softball game at Wahine softball stadium in Manoa on Saturday

The Rainbow Wahine softball program posted the highest multi-year Academic Progress Rate among 18 University of Hawaii athletic teams for 2013-’14, according to the NCAA.

The softball team had a 993 to nose out women’s tennis, which had a 992.

The highest possible score is 1,000 and a 930 score projects to approximately a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate, the NCAA says.

The APR is an NCAA tool for measuring academic achievement. It combines current academic eligibility, retention rate and rate of graduation. The multi-year APR is calculated on a four-year rolling average.

UH’s all-sports average of 972 matched the school’s highest (2007-’11). The national average is 978.

Teams below a 930 threshold risk a loss of scholarships or post-season eligibility.

Nine UH teams had perfect single-year APRs: Men’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s golf, softball, women’s tennis, indoor track and outdoor track.

"There are lots of positives to share while, at the same time, we realize the fruits of our efforts — and continued efforts — will put us in a better position as we move forward," athletic director David Matlin said in a statement.

"We’ve made great strides in the retention of our student athletes," Matlin said. "Our coaches are to be commended for addressing this issue."
