The suspect in last week’s attempted murder and arson case in a Kalihi apartment allegedly set a 57-year-old woman on fire after allegedly stabbing the victim multiple times, Deputy Prosecutor Patricia Kickland said Thursday.

Kickland made the comments to a state judge Thursday after an Oahu grand jury returned an indictment charging Mavourneen Rombawa with attempted murder, arson and kidnapping.

Circuit Judge Richard Perkins confirmed Rombawa’s bail at $150,000.

Rombawa, 37, has been in custody since her arrest on May 20.

Kickland said Rombawa entered the victim’s apartment on May 20 through an unlocked door and asked the  occupant if she could take a bath. After the resident said no, Rombawa stabbed the woman, Kickland said, and the suspect then used wire to tie the woman to a chair, poured vegetable oil over her, the chair and the floor and then set the woman on fire.
