Andres has intensified into the  first hurricane of the East Pacific hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports the storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, making it a category 1 hurricane.

The storm is still far from land and is not a threat to Hawaii or Mexico.

It is located about 770 miles south-southwest of the tip of Baja California, moving northwest at 7 mph.

It is expected to maintain its direction through the weekend and may take a more westerly path after Sunday.

Andres is moving over warm waters and is expected to continue to intensify until Monday, when it reaches cooler waters and will likely weaken back into a tropical storm.
