The cause of death was determined to be accidental for a charter boat captain who dove in to spear a billfish that then impaled him, Hawaii island police said Tuesday.

Randy Llanes, 47, of Kailua-Kona suffered fatal internal injuries caused by being struck by the bill of a swordfish Friday at Honokohau Harbor, police said.

Llanes jumped into the water with a spear gun, after he spotted the swordfish in the harbor. He struck the swordfish who fled, became entangled in a buoy line and turned around, striking Llanes, a witness said.
