The medical examiner said a 41-year-old Ewa Beach woman died of injuries to her head when she lost control of her car early Sunday morning and hit a concrete median on Farrington Highway near the Kahe Power Plant.
The medical examiner identified the woman as Larissa Tuifao.
Police suspect Tuifao may have fallen asleep around 12:38 a.m. Sunday and was not wearing her seatbelt when the car crashed into the median and flipped over.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tuifao’s seven-year-old daughter was wearing a seatbelt in the front seat. She crawled out on her own after the crash and paramedics took her to the hospital in good condition.
The car was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway when the accident occurred about a half mile west of Aliinui Drive near the Kahe Power Plant, police said.
Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
This is Oahu’s 25th traffic fatality this year compared to 27 at the same time last year.
