TRENTON, N.J. >> A mob boss and a top mobster are among six members of the Lucchese crime family to plead guilty to charges stemming from an investigation of an international gambling enterprise.

The New Jersey attorney general’s office says they pleaded guilty Wednesday to racketeering charges.

Eighty-year-old Matthew Madonna of Seldon, New York, faces up to five years in prison. Authorities say he is a member of the three-man panel that rules the family.

Sixty-nine-year-old Ralph Perna, of East Hanover, New Jersey, will be sentenced to eight years in prison under terms of a plea agreement. Authorities say he leads the family’s New Jersey faction.

The defendants were charged in 2007 after investigators targeted an international criminal gambling enterprise that they say handled billions of dollars in wagers, primarily on sporting events.
