Routine traffic stop leads to arrest of car theft suspects

A routine traffic stop on the Pali Highway Sunday morning got three people arrested after police discovered the car had been stolen and had phony license plates.

Officers arrested the driver, a 30-year-old man, on suspicion of car theft, three outstanding contempt warrants, and air gun violation.

 A 31-year-old male passenger faces a charge of unauthorized entry into a vehicle and an outstanding bench warrant.

A 34-year-old female passenger was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a vehicle and outstanding bench warrant.

Police arrested the suspects near the intersection of Nuuanu Avenue and Pali Highway.

The car had been stolen earlier this month and license plates on the vehicle had been switched, police said.
