Lifeguards rescued a bodyboarder who was critically injured at Keawaula Beach, also known as Yokohama Bay, Friday morning.
Emergency Medical Services reported the man, believed to be in his 30s, apparently hit his head on the reef.
Lifeguards noticed the man in distress and pulled him out of the water at about 10:15 a.m., EMS said in a report.
Paramedics performed advanced life-saving procedures and took him in critical condition to a hospital.
