KAILUA-KONA » The level of the lava lake atop Kilauea Volcano has dropped.

West Hawaii Today reports that scientists say the lava lake dropped about 10 feet between Thursday and Friday morning.

Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say the lava lake is about 165 feet below the rim of the Overlook vent within Halemaumau Crater. It continues to circulate and occasionally spatter, producing a gas plume at daytime and a glow at night.

The observatory says the angle of the ground at Kilauea Volcano has remained stable and that seismic activity has continued to remain within background values.
