HAGATNA, Guam » A Guam police officer is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of a 15-year veteran of the force.

Guam Police Department Officer Elbert Piolo called police himself as he bled out from a gunshot wound Monday morning, the Pacific Daily News reported.

He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Officer Mark Torre Jr. was formally charged with the crime Tuesday. His bond was set at $500,000. Defense attorney Jay Arriola declined to comment Wednesday.

The shooting occurred at Torre’s residence where he lives with his father, Guam police precinct commander Lt. Mark Torre. Father and son took turns talking to police after Piolo dialed 911.

Prosecution documents filed in court say officers responded to the house about 2:30 a.m. to find Piolo slumped in Torre Jr.’s arms.

An officer at the scene reported Torre Jr. appeared to be drunk and smelled of alcohol. Torre Jr. told the officer that Piolo argued with an unknown female.

He said, "people are going to think I shot him," according to court documents.

Piolo’s pickup truck was parked in front of the Torre’s house. A gun was found inside the vehicle that court documents say was the suspect’s personal firearm.
