Hawaii County police are looking for suspects in a robbery and a shooting Monday evening.

Police said three masked suspects held up a 29-year-old Mountain View man at gunpoint and stole his pickup truck at bout 4:55 p.m. Monday.

The victim told police he had just pulled out of his driveway and pulled over to the side of the road, when the suspects drove up in a sedan with their faces obscured and ordered him to surrender his truck.

About 3 hours later, an acquaintance of the victim saw the truck in the parking lot of business and followed it to the intersection of Pohaku Drive and 37th Avenue in the Orchidland subdivision in Puna.

The acquaintance confronted the driver of the stolen truck, who fired at least one shot, abandonded the truck and fled on foot, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about either incident to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the Crime Stoppers number at (808) 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Police also cautioned the public not to approach the suspects.
