Man arrested for allegedly forging more than $20,000 in checks

Police arrested a 36-year-old man Tuesday for allegedly forging checks and committing theft in excess of $20,000. 

The man allegedly stole personal checks belonging to a 57-year-old woman and used her confidential information to forge the checks from Nov. 21 to Dec. 3. 

The man had fled the country but later returned, police said. 

He was arrested at 9:50 a.m. on suspicion of three counts of second-degree forgery, first-degree identity theft, a Class A felony, first-degree theft and unauthorized possession of personal and confidential information.
