Traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen construction equipment

A traffic stop on the H-1 freeway early Monday morning got a 34-year-old Manoa man thrown in jail after the arresting officer discovered the the mini-excavator he was towing had been stolen. 

The officer stopped the truck towing an unlicensed trailer at about 1 a.m. Monday on the H-1 Freeway near the Vineyard Street off ramp. Following the stop, the officer discovered the min-excavator being towed had been reported stolen, police said. 

In addition to his arrest on suspicion of second-degree theft and driving without a license, the suspect also got a citation for driving a truck with expired vehicle registration.
