Sightseers braved high surf off off of Magic Island Monday morning.

July ended with more high temperature records set and tied and the hot, humid weather looks to continue into August.

The high temperature of 92 degrees Friday at the Kahului Airport tied the old record for the date last set in 1997. Lihue’s high temperature of 88 degrees also tied a record for the date.

The last time it was that hot on July 31 on Kauai was in 2008.

On Thursday, the high temperature of 92 degrees at the Honolulu Airport tied a record for the date set in 1990. Lihue also tied a record with a high temperature of 88 degrees, set in 1982.

Kahului set a new record Wednesday with a high of 93 degrees on Thursday. It broke the old record for the date set in 1997.

Friday was the eighth straight day of record temperatures in Hawaii.

Since the beginning of the month, 33 high temperature records have been tied or set in Hawaii.

The hot, muggy weather is likely to continue this weekend with added humidity as the remnants of Tropical Depression 8E move over the state.

High temperatures of between 84 and 92 degrees are in the forecast through Sunday with partly cloudy skies on most islands Saturday, becoming cloudier on Sunday.

What’s left of 8E should reach the Big Island Saturday, bringing an increased chance of rain, mostly in windward and mauka areas. It will move up the island chain on Sunday, bringing increasing cloudiness and showers, mostly to windward and mauka areas, but some of the showers could be blown over Honolulu and other leeward sections.
