Members of the Honolulu Police Department’s bomb squad destroyed a canvas bag containing dynamite, a fuse, and blasting caps on Lanai.

Maui police said a 52-year-old man found the bag in his storage shed at 12:30 p.m. and called Lanai police.

The man, who had put the explosives in his car, was told to park his vehicle immediately. Police officers examined the bag at 6th Street and Ilama Avenue and evacuated residents in the area until explosive specialists from Honolulu arrived and destroyed the bag at 9:22 p.m.
