A tour boat company has recovered a 65-foot catamaran that was stolen from Port Allen Harbor in Hanapepe on Tuesday night.

The catamaran, Holo Holo, is the main vessel used by Holo Holo Charters, Inc.

At approximately 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, police said company employees arriving to work reported the catamaran missing. They conducted a search and spotted it about two hours later, drifting roughly 2.5 miles from its berth near Waimea Bay.

The Coast Guard assisted the tour boat company in the search.

Police said the catamaran was found abandoned and partially submerged in the water. It has since been towed back to the harbor.

The catamaran sustained damage to the left side of the hull, propeller and rudder. The damage, estimated up to $175,000 to $200,000, appears to be consistent with hitting reef or a breakwall.

Marcie Millett owns and operates the tour company with her husband, Kevin. Her husband designed and built the catamaran.

Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call Detective Jesse Guirao of the Kauai Police Department at 241-1707 or police dispatch at 241-1711.
