The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 24-year-old man who died after falling 14 stories while trying to stop a teen from jumping off a dorm building ledge at the University of Hawaii at Manoa as Thomas Bennett.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday that Bennett died of multiple blunt trauma. His address was not confirmed.

Bennett was trying to help a 19-year-old man, who was suicidal, when they both fell from the Hale Wainani dormitory about 2 a.m. Sunday. Both men were taken to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

The teen remained in critical condition at a hospital on Tuesday.

UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl said the two men who fell were not students. The student who lived at the dorm had people over early Sunday, including the two men.
